It was Benjamin Franklin who coined that phrase. Not a bad bit of advice for the folks who started this country and for people today. Especially for house of worship sound mixer types (I know there weren't any back in Bens' day) during the holiday season. But maybe he should have said; "God helps those who ask for help."

Here's another informative column by Mark Amundson, reprinted from the Aug. 2009 issue of FOH. -ed.
Being in the live sound business, and especially towards the ankle-biting side, I get a lot questions of how much audio power or amperes of loading a typical circuit can handle before tripping the circuit breaker.

We were doing a three-day business-to-business networking conference in a converted warehouse on a pier on the East River in New York. Our company provided sound reinforcement and A/V for a stage with the evening entertainment, an area where several hundred attendees were served meals and listened to speeches, as well as several booths.

Although Solotech made a big splash with the opening of its 30,000-square-foot warehouse space that includes a rehearsal room for acts getting ready for tours and an audio video shop, the company has actually had a presence in Las Vegas since the early 1990s when the first Cirque du Soleil show opened with a audio system supplied by the main office in Montreal.

All right, kids, the topic of today's story is powered wedges. I'll preface this with a small story. This test is a continuation of a small shootout that we did here at the shop a while back. The original shootout was between L-Acoustics, Turbosound, JBL VP and DAS powered wedges.

 | (Click for a larger pic) Joe O'Herlihy and Jamie Rio | I met with Joe O'Herlihy, U2's audio director and FOH mixer, in the Nevada desert just outside of Las Vegas. U2 was playing in Sam Boyd Stadium on Oct 23. This was one of the many stops on the bands' very ambitious 360º tour. Ambitious not for the amount of dates played, but because of the size, scope and magnitude of the 360º project.

We are all hoping that the coming year is going to be better than the one that just passed and I am very much among those hoping. I mean, how long can it go on? And entertainment is more immune to downturns than other sectors of the economy, right?

You had to be there to see a hilariously self-deprecating Dennis DeYoung emcee. You had to be there for touching, moving documentaries on the three Parnelli honorees, Stan Miller, Jake Berry and Richard Belliveau, You had to be there for the surprise winners and their usually unconventional acceptance speeches.
